Asia Cup Hockey 2009 Relocated to Malaysia

Asia Cup Hockey 2009 will take place in Malaysia and the tournament kicks off from 9 May. The tournament was supposed to be held in Dubai, but Dubai officials recently expressed their inability to organize the tournament due to unavoidable circumstances. It is reported that economic recession is the main reason behind Dubai’s reluctance to hold the tournament. So, Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) was forced to shift the Asia Cup 2009 tournament from Dubai to Malaysia. AHF had offered Dubai to organize Asia Cup 2009, looking for a growth of hockey in that region. Malaysia is going to organize Azlan Shah Hockey Cup, a five-nation hockey tournament, next month. So, Malaysia have now two big hockey tournament in the next two months.

India will win Azlan Shah Hockey Cup, Vows Coach Harendra Singh

India is going to take part in the five-nation hockey tournament, Azlan Shah Hockey Cup, stating from April in Malaysia. Going into the tournament as current runners up, India now wants to end up winning the tournament this time. India’s interim coach Harendra Singh has recently said that his team would show attacking style of hockey in Malaysia and win the title. He thinks that India is well known for its attacking style and he also wants his team to hold on that reputation. Recent performance of India men’s hockey team is pretty much satisfactory as India convincingly won the 5-match test series 2-0 in New Zealand after winning the runners up title in Punjab Gold Cup hockey tournament.

Indian Hockey Team Wins 4-Match Series 2-0 against New Zealand

Indian men’s hockey team clinched the four-match series 2-0 against New Zealand. The visitors pulled off a 2-0 victory over New Zealand men’s hockey team recently. Home team went into the last match of the series in Auckland with a view to salvaging the series as India was leading 1-0 already. Sandeep Singh and Dilip Tirkey scored for India in the second half of the match and that ensured a convincing series win for India. However, India might have conceded a goal before half time, but the referee disallowed a goal for New Zealand just two minutes off the half time. Still, India dominated throughout the match and the winning margin could have been bigger unless New Zealand goalkeeper did not made some excellent save. India earlier drew 1-1 with New Zealand in the third match. India started the series with a draw in the first match, but took a lead by winning the second match in the series.

New Zealand draw the first Hockey test against India

The first of the four game series between New Zealand and India has been finished with 1-1 draw. This exciting and nail biting match took place in Wellington. After making score in the third minute of game, home side went ahead but they could not continue their dominance in the game. Phil Burrows made this score for his team. At last India could make a score and leveled the game but to do it they took more time. India could mange it in the second half.

Now, both New Zealand and India will face each other to play the second match. This match will take place in the same venue at the National Hockey Stadium. If you are fan of hockey game and any of them is your favorite then keep in tough with hockey and enjoy every moment.

Jeroen Hertzberger led Netherlands to win Punjab Gold Cup hockey tournament

Thanks to Jeroen Hertzberger, Netherlands won the Punjab Gold Cup hockey tournament and prepare for the 2010 World Cup. Jeroen Hertzberger was awarded as the player of the Tournament due to his impressive form. This 23-year old said that it was a pleasure to play in front of such a huge audience in India. No doubt about that India tour will be memorable in his memory and he feels happy when it comes to visit India once again for hockey game. Before the start of this tournament, Netherlands supremacy was not questionable either and they proved it with the tournament win. They took the win over India team despite the lack of some super starts like Taeke Taekema and Teun de Nooijer.

However, India played well but failed to use their chance to make goal and increase the difference against the opponent team. According to the former India goalkeeper Romeo James, goalkeeper Baljit Singh was the star performer for India team. It is clear that missing easy chance was the reason of India’s defeat.

Phoenix Coyotes under the Threat of Existence

Phoenix Coyotes is one of the most popular ice hockey club, but the club is now under series economic problem with a huge debt. Club owner Jerry Moyes has recently revealed his interest to sell a part or a majority share of the clubs and are looking for investors. In fact, he along with club coach Wayne Gretzky has already talked to some interested investors. Club fans are worried about the club’s possible relocation to somewhere else other than its current location Phoenix, Arizona. Before 1996, the club was named Winnipeg Jets when it was located in Canada. It became Phoenix Coyotes when it moved to Phoenix in 1996.

Global economy is going through a rough patch of time and the way it is being aggravated, no body knows if the bad days are ahead of us. So, I am not certain if Coyotes will be able to remain in Phoenix.

Youth Hockey Club in the US Missing about $1 Million

About $1 million is missing from Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association, a youth hokey club in the United States. Police is investigating the matter and suspecting a bookkeeper on this finance fraud. Chelsea’s Kimberly Knight was brought to 14A District Court in Washtenaw County this month. Police investigation carried out by Pittsfield Township has found out more than $900,000 was missing between 2005 and 2007. The amount was allotted for long-term hickey project, but it has been reported that the regular operations of the youth hockey club has not been affected by the missing money.

This is really unfortunate to see such mismanagement in the youth hockey club. US economy is already stumbling as the economic recession is getting worsened day by day. It would really very hard for the club to look out for new investment to carry out a long-term project for the development of hockey.
